The League’s primary mission is legislative advocacy. DLLG staff represents the interests of local governments in the Delaware General Assembly within its many committees and subcommittees, the governor and various departments and agencies, the lieutenant governor, and a host of boards and commissions. Because Delaware local governments derive their powers from the legislature, they must routinely petition the General Assembly for amendments or additions to their local authority. DLLG, as a watchdog, is mindful of any legislation that may hinder or disable local authority and will oppose or advocate legislation as is warranted.

2009 Legislative Agenda

  2. All towns and municipalities will notify the DLLG before introducing legislation to the General Assembly.

  5. Maintain Municipal Street Aid.
  6. Support non-resident tax legislation.
  7. Participate in Lobby Day.
  8. Oppose Senate Bill #42, which makes changes affecting Newark’s Alderman court.
